Understanding the Different Types of Dentures
If you are missing teeth, your dentist may recommend removable appliances called dentures to restore the cosmetic appearance and health of your smile. Depending on the number of missing teeth and the health of your surrounding jawbone, mini or traditional dental implants can help secure your new teeth. Read on to take a look at the different kinds of dentures available today.
Partial
Dentures are used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues for functional and aesthetic reasons. Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth that are attached to gum-colored plastic bases and are connected by a metal framework. Partial dentures can be attached with metal clasps or precision attachments, and many patients opt for crowns to improve the fit of a removable partial denture.
Immediate
Your dentist may recommend immediate dentures if you have very few or no remaining teeth in your mouth and prefer to have dentures right away. During your first visit, your dentist will take measurements and make a model of your jaw. After your customized dentures have been created, your dentist will remove any remaining teeth and install complete dentures to cover the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both.
