Why Out-of-Network Coverage May be Comparable

Many patients assume that choosing an out-of-network dentist automatically means significantly higher out-of-pocket costs—but that’s not always the case. In fact, depending on your dental insurance plan, the difference between in-network and out-of-network coverage may be minimal or even nonexistent.

Similar Reimbursement Levels
Many PPO dental plans offer similar reimbursement rates for in-network and out-of-network providers, especially for major services like crowns, bridges, and dentures.

Annual Maximums Apply Either Way
Most dental plans have an annual benefit cap, meaning your insurance will only pay up to a certain amount per year regardless of whether you see an in-network or out-of-network provider.

Fee Differences May Be Small
While in-network dentists agree to a contracted rate, we keep our fees competitive, which can result in only a small difference in what you pay out of pocket.

Coverage for Preventative Care
Many dental plans cover preventative services (like cleanings, exams, and X-rays) at 100%, even if the provider is out of network.

What this means for you:

We encourage you to check your insurance benefit summary and compare the in-network vs. out-of-network coverage. You might find that your out-of-pocket costs are nearly the same, allowing you to choose a dentist based on quality, comfort, and expertise rather than just network status.

If you have any questions or concerns about your dental insurance coverage, we are happy to review your coverage with you.
